Skate Shop Loveland: Picking The Right Mouth Guard
Getting hit in the mouth is no fun no matter what. Skate Ratz, Loveland's trusted skate shop, sells a variety of mouth guards that will help protect your pearly whites when you're out there skating. Not sure you need a mouth guard? Keep reading!
Why are mouth guards so important anyway? Firstly, mouth guards help to protect your teeth from traumatic dental and jaw injuries. You'll also find protection from chipped, missing, or broken teeth, and even root fractures when you wear your mouth guard.
How do you choose the right mouth guard for you? Firstly, you need to know that there are 3 main types of mouth guards.
- Stock Mouthguards: These are pre-formed and totally ready to wear. If you go this route, make sure you get some that have different size options. Otherwise, the fit may be off and that can interfere with talking or breathing. Plus, if the size is off you likely won't get the protection you're looking for.
- Boil & Bite Mouth Guards: You can find these at most sporting goods stores. To use them, you'll boil them in water like the name implies and to make them pliable. Then you'll mold them to the shape of your teeth.
- Custom-Fitted Mouth Guards: This is the type of mouth guard that most dentists recommend if you're skating a lot. While they do cost a bit more, they provide excellent protection for your pearly whites.
- Remember! A well-designed mouth guard is one that will be comfortable and durable. Your mouth guards should never dislodge during skating or other activities.
